Wooftop Cinema, a Pup-ular event, to win hearts in the arts district – NBC Los Angeles

What there is to know

  • Friday August 26
  • In honor of National Dog Day, Rooftop Cinema Club Arts District will screen “Legally Blonde” at 5:30 p.m.
  • Tickets start at $18.50 (per person); dogs must be kept on a leash

We have an idea of the most animal variety, a general intuition, if you will, that if we tried to explain a movie plot to any dog, he might watch us with rapt attention, hooked on every twist that we describe.

This could be because dogs are attuned to the vibrations of their humans in an almost supernatural way, it’s true. Or maybe it’s because our Fidos have seen so many movies while relaxing next to us on the sofa, one eye lazily open and staring in the direction of the TV.

Movies, Puppies, and Humans: It’s a trio that’s been around over the years, basically, and while most of the movies we see alongside our pet are watched at home, we may, on occasion, enjoy going to the movies with our four- best friend at the feet.

That opportunity arises when the Rooftop Cinema Club Arts District transforms, for one night only, into a Wooftop Cinema, giving the dogs a chance to join their people for an evening of movie magic.

And the movie on the outside screen? Of course, it will contain a woofer: get ready to admire the adventures of Bruiser, the little powerhouse who shares the screen with Elle Woods, the main character of “Legally Blonde”.

Did your own Lassie or Laddie see the 2001 comedy starring Reese Witherspoon? Otherwise, here’s a joyful chance to enjoy it together in a cinematic space where dogs are not only allowed but welcome.

The date is August 26 or National Dog Day, if you prefer, and a ticket? These start at $18.50, although there are other options available, if you want popcorn or an Adirondack seat.

A bar, run by HiLo Alcohol, will offer adult refreshments for purchase, including canned cocktails, wine and beer, as well as several non-spirit selections.

Your dog must remain on a leash, and a space reserved for puppies? It will be available on the wooftop, uh, on the roof.

Seating is limited, so you’ll want to jump for a ticket faster than your dog jumps for the couch when you turn on the TV and settle in for an engrossing evening of movie watching.

The start time for this special event? It’s 5:30 p.m., which means you can bring back your #1 scruffy hug well before bedtime.
