SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Prize Fest 2022 is still ten months away – but organizers are already making waves with a massive announcement.

Film Prize executives recently announced that the $50,000 grand prize will return for this year’s festival.

“Raising the film’s price to $50,000 is huge for our community,” said Gregory Kallenberg, executive director of the Prize Foundation. “We are already seeing independent filmmakers signing up, and we look forward to continuing our work to make Caddo Parish a mecca for independent film.”

There are, however, a few caveats that must be adhered to in order to win the grand prize.

The winning film must be shot in the parish of Caddo. If a film is shot elsewhere in Louisiana, filmmakers will receive $25,000.

“The response we’ve seen from filmmakers in Louisiana and across the country over the past few weeks has been staggering,” said Chris Lyon, director of Film Prize. “We look forward to seeing these filmmakers contribute to the success of the Film Prize’s first ten years by coming to our state and our community to tell incredible stories, which audiences can see at Prize Fest in October.”

Prize Fest executives are hosting a launch and networking event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 27 at Central Artstation. Organizers also plan to offer registered filmmakers the opportunity to receive a $1,000 grant if they commit to producing their play in Caddo Parish.

Proof of vaccination, as well as masks, are required.

Film submissions are due on July 12, 2022. The top 20 film award finalists will be announced on August 9, 2022.

Prize Fest will take place from October 13 to 23, 2022.
