Staten Island’s New Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Opens Friday: Here’s the Movies Schedule

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Hey movie buffs. Are you ready? The Alamo Drafthouse Theater will officially open Friday night at 5 p.m., with a total of 12 film screenings on the theater’s first night. Want to experience all that this movie buff has to offer? Now is your chance.

“We’re thrilled to finally have people inside the building, watching a movie and having a drink at the bar,” said Mike Sampson, Alamo’s field marketing manager, who gave Advance/ SILive a preview tour of the property earlier this week. “We want everyone to come early and stay late, come take a look at all the Alamo has to offer.”

The first is “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” which will air twice, once at 6 p.m. and another at 8:45 p.m. Guests can purchase tickets at https://drafthouse.com/nyc#now-playing.

Marcel the shod shell

6:15 p.m. and 9 p.m.; PG rated; 89 minutes

This animated story tells of a character’s quest to find his family. Voiced by Isabella Rossellini, Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp, the family-oriented film is currently only playing in our area at Alamo theaters.

Thor: Love and Thunder

6:30 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.; rated PG-13; 120 minutes

Presented in digital 2D, this highly acclaimed film from Marvel Studios stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale. It has been in theaters since July 8.

Jordan Peele’s horror-thriller won critical acclaim for its story, performance, cinematography and sound design. The film, which will be shown in both Dolby Atmos and 2-D Digital at Alamo, focuses on UFOs terrorizing the population of a rural mountain town.

Escape from New York

ABOUT THE VENUE

You can find the new Alamo Theater discreetly hidden on the top floor of The Boulevard mall, tucked away behind mega retailers like Old Navy and Party City.

Filled with nine theaters ranging from 200 seats to 37, with a total of 893 fully reclining seats in total, this outpost is one of 36 Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the United States and the fourth in New State. York after Yonkers, Brooklyn and Manhattan. New York’s largest and most modern Alamo, the theater features Sony 4K digital laser projection and Dolby Atmos and 35mm capabilities.

“It really is a very different way to experience a movie and we believe that once you have Alamo, you’ll never want to see a movie any other way,” said Sampson, detailing mobile tickets, zero lines and call buttons at each seat. “People come here for the first time and are always amazed that there is no concession. Popcorn, candies, sodas, whatever you want, we bring it right to your seat. »

There are also no pre-show commercials, Sampson explained. Instead, each show is preceded by a curated video that’s relevant to the movie you’re watching.

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema concept, founded in 1997 as a single-screen mom-pop repertoire theater in Austin, Texas, is well known for celebrating cinema as an art form. More than just a movie theater that screens the latest Hollywood blockbusters, Alamo has become industry acclaimed over the past 24 years for its showcase of indie titles, classics, foreign films, documentaries and more.

When your movie is done, you can stroll to the Flying Guillotine, the Alamo’s lobby bar that honors the classic Kung Fu movie of the same name.

“The Flying Guillotine is our themed bar, named after the classic Shaw Bros.” Master of the Flying Guillotine,” Sampson explained, detailing a kung fu-themed bar and martial arts museum that’s a collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA, a kung fu movie buff with an acquaintance. encyclopedia of martial arts philosophy and an academic approach to its appreciation.

A bold red bar features a Wu-Tang symbol carved into its center, along with bamboo stools, custom lighting designed to look like Chinese weapons, and 45 beer taps protruding from the wall.

“Like all Alamo Drafthouse theaters, our Staten Island theater will offer a full food and beverage menu with appetizers, main courses and desserts available, as well as full bar options, including innovative cocktails, spirits , award-winning milkshakes and a huge selection of local draft beers brought straight to your seat by our amazing ninja servers,” Sampson said.

Flagship Brewery has created a special “Flying Guillotine IPA” for the theater and there are two unique sections to the bar’s cocktail menu: Shaolin, features borough-centric drinks like Verrazano – a blend of bourbon, mezcal and lemon oil – while the Wu-Tang section of the menu offers nine original craft cocktails inspired by local rap legends and designed by bar manager Vincent Favella. There you will find CREAM – baijiu, sugar, lemon, heavy cream, orange blossom and aquafaba – and the 36th room – Evan Williams bourbon, ginger syrup, cumin and lemon.

During the “pre-opening” period which runs until July 27, customers will receive a 25% discount on food and non-alcoholic beverages while staff train and catch up.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you’ve never played Alamo before, the experience is decidedly different than other mainstream theaters. Here’s what to expect:

• No chat or SMS. In order to preserve the cinematic experience, there is a strict no-talking and no-texting policy at Alamo Drafthouse theaters. Each seat is equipped with a call button so customers can discreetly report violations of this rule. Guests who violate the policy receive a warning. On the second offence, they are asked to leave.
• Voluntarily low-tech service. Alamo’s serving model is deliberately low-tech — like low-tech pencil and paper — designed to be as unobtrusive as possible so that the process of delivering your beer to your seat doesn’t unnecessarily distract anyone from the film. Guests write down their order using the provided paper and pen (remember, no phone!), place it in a slot on their table, and a waiter comes to collect it. A “ninja waiter” will deliver your food and drinks, refueling if necessary. About half an hour before the end of the show, the server will deposit the check.
• An extensive and very detailed menu of food and drinks. There are seven kinds of pizza, a few burger options, and hand-breaded chicken tenders. With its cobb salad and vegan options, Alamo is more of a fine dining restaurant than a theater. Specialty cocktails and bottomless popcorn (with or without herb parmesan and truffle seasoning) are also an integral part of the Alamo experience. The food isn’t cheap though. Most entrees are between $15 and $18. Alcoholic drinks sell for around $13 each, while a draft beer will set you back $9.
