Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif-starrer Sooryavanshi hits theaters on Friday. The Rohit Shetty director, which was originally due out in March 2020, has been delayed for more than 19 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film introduces the third character in Shetty’s detective universe. Previously, Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba were established as pillars of this universe. Ajay and Ranveer have cameos in Sooryavanshi.
According to the film’s trailer, the film follows Akshay Kumar’s cop Sooryavanshi as he tries to stop a terrorist group from attacking Mumbai. The trailer has one of the characters who says that in the 1993 bombings 1 ton of RDX was brought to Mumbai but only 400 kilograms were used and the remaining 600 kilograms are still buried in the city. The film follows the trail of this hidden RDX.
The film’s supporting cast also includes Jaaved Jaaferi, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Jackie Shroff, Sikander Kher, Niketan Dheer, Rajendra Gupta, Kumud Mishra, among others.
The creators have released a few songs from the film album and so far they have received a good response from the audience. Songs like ‘Aila Re Aillaa’, ‘Mere Yaaraa’ and ‘Najaa’ have already been released.
At the Sooryavanshi trailer launch, Akshay said, “I’ve made 135 movies, and for the first time, I’m watching such a large crowd. Rohit made a fabulous film. I hope the audience will appreciate it. Ajay (Devgn) and I started our careers together, and we got here, where we made so many movies together. He added: “It feels good when I get the opportunity to wear the police uniform. We are all lucky to have opportunities where we play such great roles. “
Producer Karan Johar said at the trailer launch: “There is palpable excitement in the room.
