GAA shorts signed by Irish actor Paul Mescal are among the Normal People items auctioned to raise money for Ukrainian filmmakers.

Signed blue and yellow GAA shorts, a signed screenplay of the first episode of the award-winning series based on a novel by Irish author Sally Rooney, and a signed hardback screenplay book, with photographs by Enda Bowe, are set to auction by From Wednesday 29 June to Sunday 17 July at 6 p.m.

The campaign was organized by Irish group Filmmakers supporting Filmmakers, director Lenny Abrahamson and Element Pictures.

Funds raised from the auction will go to the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI), the Docudays.ua Ukraine appeal to support filmmakers documenting the war in Ukraine, and the International Coalition for Filmmakers in Danger (ICFR) Ukraine to support filmmakers from Ukraine and Russia who may need to relocate.

The GAA shorts have been the subject of a number of memes that prompted Italian fashion house Gucci to design similar pairs.

The ‘Normal People’ auction is curated by Orla Murphy, who set up Filmmakers support Filmmakers in March 2022, and has since raised over €10,000 to support filmmakers affected by the Ukraine crisis.
