Believe it or not, the biggest movie of 2023 is getting even bigger. Christopher Nolanthe next war epic Oppenheimer seemingly threw just about every notable actor under the sun with more casting announcements at a breakneck pace. Equal only Margot Robbieit is Barbie film in its cast, the film has just added Olivia Thirlby to the gargantuan ensemble in an unknown role according to Deadline.

Oppenheimer can boast the largest cast ever assembled, featuring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Poug, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnet, Kenneth Branagh, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Josh Peckand even an apparition confirmed by Gary Oldmanot, and that’s only scratching the surface. It’s a massive return to filmmaking for Thirlby, who hasn’t been a major presence in the film industry for quite some time now. Thirlby really cut his teeth in the industry with the 2007 Elliot Page, Michael Cera drama Juno as the main character’s best friend. She eventually starred in madness and was then thrown in the face Karl Urban in 2012 Dred, a film which she hopes will one day have a sequel. More recently, his appearances have mostly been on the small screen. She starred in FX’s ill-fated series Y: The Last Man as Hero Brown and in The L word: Generation Q. Other appearances include roles in No strings attached, King Goliathand above the shadows who paired her with Alan Richson and actor Jim Gaffigan.

Oppenheimer Notoriously lacking in detail about how all of these Hollywood stars fit into Nolan’s vision, and Thirlby is no exception. We’ve had a few faces associated with names outside of Murphy as Oppenheimer recently, like Blunt who will play his wife and Downey Jr. who will appear as Lewis Strauss, but there are still plenty of unknowns. The film sees Nolan take the director’s place with a screenplay of his own creation. He will also produce with the help of Emma Thomas and Atlas Entertainment Charles Rouven.

Oppenheimer is still a long way off with the movie slated to hit theaters on July 21, 2023. With production underway in New Mexico, California, and New Jersey, who knows what surprises Nolan left behind, or if there are even any cast members left for surprise us with .
