A film, like any other work of art, is a visual representation not only of our thoughts but also of our emotions. And, like any work of art, creating it can take a lot of time and effort. Finally, like any work of art, it deserves to be shared and appreciated by anyone who wants to pay attention to it.

For their sixth annual film festival, the Ottawa Canadian Film Festival hosted at Bytowne Cinema November 3-5. And with their two previous festivals presented online due to the pandemic, they are more than excited to be back in person.

Offering every genre you can think of, this year’s film festival program showcases 12 Canadian-made films that will elicit a multitude of reactions: strike your chord, make your stomach ache with a laugh, tickle your mind and all. what precedes. From shorts to feature films, documentaries to narratives to experimental films, all made by creators from across the country, the film lineup at OCan 2022 offers variety for viewers.

“The diversity of stories we tell about ourselves represents our cultural mosaic,” says OCanFilmFest co-founder Blair Campbell. “These are stories of people facing the challenges of modern life. Some are joyful, some are cautionary tales, and many more are just humorous takes on what we’ve all been through over the past few years. The common factor is that they are real stories about real people told through a smaller lens than commercial films, but no less entertaining and engaging.

This year’s event marks the return to a physical, in-person festival for OCanFilmFest, having relied on everything being virtual for the past two years. While these virtual festivals had benefits, such as a larger potential audience, an in-person event allows audiences to have a shared experience together, which is otherwise difficult during COVID.

“Once again, we received an overwhelming number of quality submissions from filmmakers across the country,” said Ottawa Canadian Film Festival founder Jith Paul. “Narrowing them down to 12 excellent, captivating, thought-provoking and entertaining films was no small feat for our jury. We are returning to in-person screenings this year, and I look forward to seeing these films on the big screen, discussing them with local audiences and filmmakers, as well as the many filmmakers who visit Ottawa to attend the festival.

Not only do these filmmakers meet and network, but they can also watch their films with the public. With such isolation for two years, being able to speak directly to audiences is something these filmmakers will cherish and audiences will appreciate.

“Our goal for OCanFilmFest is to expose as many people as possible to the best of local and national independent film,” said Campbell. “We have incredibly talented artists in Ottawa and across the country that many Canadians may not know about. Since our inception in 2015, we have strived to solve this problem by presenting the best submissions each year. For OCanFilmFest 2022, we are proud of our contributing artists and know that this year’s audience is going to have a special experience.

These creations are aimed at creators as well as the general public, so let’s start the next month by showing our appreciation!
