A record number of people in India went to the cinema on Friday in honor of National Cinema Day. Thanks to deeply discounted tickets, around 6.5 million moviegoers attended their local multiplex to buy tickets for just 75 rupees, making September 23 the busiest date of the year for cinemas, according to the Multiplex Association of India (MAI).
In a press note, the MAI said: “The one-day initiative has seen a massive response from Indian moviegoers, with shows starting as early as 6:00 a.m. due to unprecedented demand for cinema tickets.”
“Audiences of all ages gathered and theater operators across the country announced packed shows throughout the day, marking September 23 the highest attendance of the year,” he said. he adds.
