“In this fable of psychological horror of displacement, Aisha, a recent immigrant from Senegal, is hired to care for the daughter of a wealthy couple living in New York City. Haunted by the absence of the young son she left behind, Aisha hopes her new job will offer her the chance to take her to the United States, but becomes increasingly disturbed by the family’s unstable home life. As her arrival nears, a violent presence begins to invade both her dreams and her reality, threatening the American Dream that she is painstakingly assembling.”

Talk with Indiewire (opens in a new tab) earlier this year, Jusu mentioned wanting to flip the horror genre on its head.

“I knew I didn’t want to tell a straightforward genre story,” Jusu said. “I wanted to remix this story of a domestic experience with the genre. A lot of movies that I love do that. I wanted to remix the American immigrant experience with the genre. A lot of people have a way of doing that – that you were raised by a nanny or your mother was one.”
