The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present The Metropolitan Opera: Live HD broadcast of composer Jules Massenet’s “Cinderella – Holiday Showcase” at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 8, with additional screenings at 1:00 p.m. on Monday January 10 and 6 afternoon, Tuesday January 11. The screenings take place at the Cinema Art Theater and will be presented as a recorded presentation after being filmed live.
The whimsical staging of Laurent Pelly’s storybook of Massenet’s “Cendrillon”, a hit of the 2017-18 season, is presented with a brand new English translation in 90 minutes abbreviated, with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as princess of misery, Cinderella. In this production for all ages, maestro Emmanuel Villaume directs a brilliant and delightful cast, which includes mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo as Prince Charming from Cinderella, soprano Jessica Pratt as his fairy godmother, and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and bass-baritone Laurent Naouri as his conflicting guardians.
In addition to the opera performance, the Live in HD series features stars of the Opera Met performing live interviews with the cast and / or various members of the production team while showing behind the scenes of the work.
Admission to The Met: Live in HD shows is $ 25 for adults; $ 22 for RBFS members, Met members and those aged 65 and over; $ 15 for students with ID and children 12 and under. Customers are encouraged to purchase their entry online. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater 30 minutes before the screening.
