Alec Baldwin does not know the death of the cinematographer “Rust” Halyna Hutchins … this according to the lawyer of his widower and his son.
Attorney Brian Panic reacts to new legal documents from Baldwin that say the actor wanted to finish the film after Hutchins died. Panish told Deadline, “It’s shameful that Baldwin is claiming that Hutchins’ actions in filing a wrongful death lawsuit derailed the completion of Rust. The only action that ended production on the film was the murder of Halyna Hutchins by Baldwin.”

There is a big gap between Baldwin’s view of the fatal shot and that of Halyna’s husband, Matthew Hutchins. Baldwin said he wears no liability for her death, which Panish says, “Alec Baldwin is once again trying to avoid responsibility and liability for his reckless actions prior to and on October 21 which resulted in the death of Halyna Hutchins.”
As we reported, Baldwin claimed in his new legal documents his contract with the production company “Rust” exempts it from any financial liability for any accident. This contract, however, does nothing to prevent the Hutchins family from going after Baldwin. If they win a wrongful death judgment against Baldwin, they could force him to pay the judgment. It would then be Baldwin’s responsibility to sue the “Rust” production company to recover what he paid, provided the production company was still solvent.
Baldwin’s legal documents claim Hutchins set the wheels in motion for her own death, claiming she was the one who told him to point the gun at her and pull the hammer back. This statement is sure to enrage Matthew, who was livid after Baldwin’s ABC interview in which he said he was beyond reproach. Matthew grumbled that Baldwin is trying to make himself the victim.
