Joseph Gordon-Levitt once ignored Christopher Nolan’s directorial advice

He would seek advice from directors he would work with, such as Rian Johnson, Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan. And although Nolan tried to give Levitt some good advice, it was advice Levitt disagreed with.

According to Levitt’s own account, Christopher Nolan gave the aspiring filmmaker many words of wisdom. He imported some of this advice into his own filming techniques. But there was another piece of advice that Nolan gave to the Project power actor Levitt was against.

“I told Chris Nolan I was going to direct a movie and he immediately supported me, which meant a lot to me,” Levitt said according to HuffPost. “I told him I was going to act and direct at the same time and he said, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ So he didn’t just say ‘Do whatever you want’.

In Levitt’s directorial debut, Don Jon, Levitt would both star and direct the film. But Nolan thought it might have been a bit of an overwhelming endeavor for the first-time filmmaker.

“He said to me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this the first time?’ I said I really knew that and he said, ‘OK, but I’m raising my hand now and saying you might want to think about it. That’s quite an extra challenge you might want. raise the second time around, ”Levitt recalls.

But Levitt chose to stick to his guns despite Nolan’s advice.

“There were, of course, voices in my head expressing concerns about momentum, career building and things of that nature,” Gordon said. “But I knew that if I wanted to be happy I had to choose my first project because it would challenge me as an actor and really intrigue and inspire me. And with 7500, I think I really found this.
