FORT SMITH, Ark. — Applications are about to begin being accepted for the second Fort Smith International Film Festival, which will take place August 26-27.
Beginning February 4, submissions for the 2022 festival will be accepted by the festival selection committee for compete for cash prizes, trophies and scholarships. This year’s theme is “Borderlands” inspired by the town of Fort Smith and its history.
“Why Borderlands as a theme? Fort Smith is a quirky Wild West frontier town. Physical and societal borders are where innovations and new concepts are born. Creativity flourishes in these spaces. The film acts as a threshold between actuality and fantasy capturing the moment a boundary is established, defended or overcome,” said Brandon Chase Goldsmith, president of the River Valley Film Society and executive director of the Fort International Film Festival. TempleLive, a historic venue in downtown Fort Smith, will serve as the venue for the 2022 festival with screening rooms and filmmaker workshops.
Entry fees per film are $10 for early bird to $25 for later entries. Movie categories include people of color, aboriginal, music videos, animation, high school and college student shorts, documentaries, shorts and feature films.
