Filmmaker Paula Lauzon and HarLau Productions have purchased the rights to “Consequences,” a screenplay created by North Carolina writer Matt Higgins.
DURHAM, NC, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Director Paula Lauzon and HarLau Productions purchased the rights to “Consequences,” a screenplay created by North Carolina writer Matt Higgins.
“Aftermath” tells the story of a young black lawyer who gives up his practice of law after defending a DWI client who, after the trial, drives drunk again and kills an innocent woman. The main character’s escape from the enormous guilt he harbors is complicated when the mother of a troubled teenager seeks much-needed legal help.
Scheduled to run under 30 minutes, the script for the 28-page short film has already won awards with accolades such as Best Short Film at the Accord Cine Festival. The story explores themes of guilt, father / son relationships, and ultimately how redemption can be far from easy when the consequences are great.
The case was concluded on Monday, September 27. Experienced on both sides of the camera, Lauzon has spent years in Hollywood building her foundation as an actress and now resides in the Triangle area of North Carolina. She is active in theater, directing, executive production and film casting and recently opened the Durham School of Acting in Durham, North Carolina. Lauzon directed her first short, “One-Leg” in 2019 and recently directed the music video for “Power”, starring Jessenia as well as a romantic comedy film written by North Carolina Native, Rebecca Hirsh. Paula has been hired to direct Jessenia’s upcoming music video, ‘Dinner Table’, which will be released at Q42021.
A member of the Television Academy, Lauzon has served as a judge for the annual Daytime Emmy Awards, the Burbank International Film Festival, the Hollywood Horrorfest, the Raleigh Film and Art Festival, and the Experimental Film Festival, held in North Carolina.
“While we are still in this pandemic, my core team and I have been active in moving projects forward,” Lauzon said. “We are actively seeking funds for our projects to ensure communities in North Carolina reap the benefits of film production. Film companies receive state incentives to attract them to the state; we are already anchored here. to do it, ”says Lauzon. She also mentions: “We invest in ourselves and in our community. We are determined to create employment opportunities for our community, which is essential and paramount, especially given the times in which we live. This state has a HIGHLY skilled film workforce which I am completely impressed with. The infrastructure here is solid, as well as the quality and variety of filming locations. ”Lauzon also notes,“ although we are not yet eligible for the 25% discount offered through the approved North Carolina Biparty Film and Entertainment Grant, we are confident that we will make our mark in the filming industry here in every way possible. “
Higgins lives in eastern North Carolina and has written many screenplays in a wide variety of genres. “Consequences” is his second screenplay to go into production. He has been a writer and editor for years, having worked for several publishing and media companies.
